Kathryn Carter is a landscape painter who is inspired by Northland's coast and islands . She has a studio at Railway St Studios in Newmarket and has been a finalist in the 2016 Waikato Art Awards and the 2017 Molly Morpeth Canaday National Art Award . She paints to capture the essence of coastal light through the seasons and works in ink on archival paper and panel and oils on canvas . She studied drawing under artist Pat Hanly for three years as a young architecture student in Auckland and has work in collections throughout NZ Sydney and the US
