Gemma Baldock studied at the Dunedin School of Art.
Her preferred medium is original collage that accentuates the colours and textures of her subjects. The figures are pared down and simplified, downloaded from memory rather than anatomically correct. At a glance the works may appear as painted pictures, but on closer inspection the work is an orchestration of many parts. The tactile pleasure of cutting paper and physically handling every little component, satisfies her need to take chaos and turn it into order which is fulfilled once glued into the composition and detailing completed with acrylic paint.
