I've become fascinated by glasswort, a remarkable plant that thrives in New Zealand's salty wetlands. Its segmented, succulent stems are beautifully sculptural, and I’m drawn to the way these fragile forms echo the rhythm and repetition found in blown glass.
Made one at a time using a blowtorch, these sculptures are mounted like collected specimens. Inspired by natural history collections and the glass models created by Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka in the nineteenth century, they invite a closer look at a resilient wetland plant that is often overlooked despite the important role it plays in coastal ecosystems.
