One of the most ancient fruits that originated in Persia (now modern day Iran) the pomegranate is a fruit that holds great symbolism in many cultures. It figured significantly in early jewish decorative art and was a symbol of sanctity, abundance and faithfulness. In China it was symbolic of fertility, and in Greece rejuvenation and eternal life. In Christianity, the many seeds contained within its skin suggested the pomegranate as a symbol of chastity, and of the unity of many under one authority, namely the church.
