Karen moved to Auckland from Brighton, England 8 years ago. Before leaving UK, she attended London’s Slade School of Art summer school and has been serious about painting ever since. After 4 years at Browne School of Art, she has just exhibited her work there as part of the Visual Arts Mentoring programme, coached by Simon McIntyre. Her work is gestural, expressive and confrontingly colourful. Her themes are concerned with emotional landscapes; our mental health; our personal stories. Drawing on myriad sources she approaches each canvas as an arena in which to act these things out. Influences: female American Expressionsist.
