This painting was created from seeing a lone old worn cut down tree trunk standing firm right on the waters edge at Hokitika beach, on the West Coast of the South Island whilst I was holidaying there a few years ago. ( it could be any beach you wish though )
The old stump was solid and grounded in its place looking to be "observing" the last rays of sunlight for that day.
I just had to put it on canvas. The bold colours of the sky, then softly reflected into the water. The vast contrast of the dark silhouette of our old Sentry against the setting sun. Pure Magic !
I have wrapped the painting around the sides of the deep edged canvas to give this vista a more fuller and complete feel.
You can almost hear the small pebbles rolling softly in the gentle evening surf.
